“If you can’t explain it to a six year old, you don’t understand it yourself.” -Albert Einstein
How many things in life get jumbled, confusing, and out of control because the issue becomes “too complicated?” Sometimes all that is needed to a few deep breaths, a count to 10, and reassessment of the situation.
If you are capable of reasoning with yourself in a time of confusion, ask yourself some of these questions:
- will this matter in 5 minutes?
- will this matter in a year from now?
- could this ruin this relationship?
- what can I do to make things better?
- have I done all that I can do?
When I am able to slow down and ask myself some of these questions, my issue turns around quite quickly after that.
To reference the quote at the beginning, have you ever given advice to a child? It’s quite different than advice you would give to an adult, wouldn’t you say? Perhaps the next time you’re in a pickle, walk up to a mirror and speak to the child inside and the answer may be simpler than you once thought.
